Pushing the envelope for how big a scanner can be and still count as portable, the Kodak ScanMate i940 comes out of the box looking like nothing so much as an oversize brick covered in black plastic. It also looks a lot like the Editors' Choice Canon imageFormula P-215 Scan-tini Personal Document Scanner, only bigger. The trade-off for any loss of portability, however, is far better performance than most portable scanners deliver. And the balance of portability and performance is just right to make the i940 Editors' Choice.
